Silly gear, magical hats or accoutrements so important that, like astronaut suits in space, this very ridiculous setup might be the elixir that preserves life itself and gives Dr. Priss, Gunz, Lucky and others a fighting chance to defy the "alien weekend" where the conquest of Earth is certainly a sure thing.

To have any kind of a chance at all, long chances must be taken. Ideas formerly ridiculed as fairy tales must now be taken seriously. And so passageways are entered into, people must go through walls of stone and plaster, and this form of traveling must be mastered. In this ghastly combat one person on Dr. Priss' team is even reduced to an equine reality with an annoying whinny to boot!

Why all this madness? It's because on this Halloween weekend aliens from another dimension have all their ducks in a row and Earth, as we know it, will be savaged and the human race will be reduced to vile slavery or outright destruction. 

Unless, that is, that humans can mount this longest of long shots and give themselves a puncher's chance to prevail against the darkness.
